Olivier Giroud or Tammy Abraham : Who deserves (should) start against Bayern Munich?

Chelsea face Bayern Munich as part of their program in the season as battle ensues between the Blues and the Bavarian giants. It promises to be an interesting feat as both sides won at the weekend against Tottenham Hotspur (for Chelsea) and SC Paderborn 07 (for Bayern Munich).

This was may have been of narrow margin but with the quality both sides have got we expect a massive encounter driven with quality as Chelsea face the Bundesliga giants.

This could see certain personnel changes in the camp of both teams as we ponder what might be going on in the mind of Frank Lampard ahead of the fixture.

The Chelsea boss had some players returning from injury while the replacements of the then injured players performed to expectation. This presents the case of two Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham as the latter came on for the last 20 minutes to replace the former at the weekend.

This got Olivier Giroud score against Tottenham while impressing with a level of confidence that is needed for a team of Bayern’s caliber.

The young lad Tammy Abraham is the club’s first choice striker owing his superior quality and consistency in front of goal. But following his injury Frank Lampard has called upon the likes of Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud as the Chelsea side needed a response in the centre position.

However, it was Olivier Giroud that took the chance with both hands as he scored against Tottenham Hotspurs thus leading Chelsea to a 2-1 win.

This would present a selection headache for Frank Lampard regarding who starts the Bayern Munich clash between both strikers. For me, it would be great to see Olivier Giroud continue against Bayern from the start rather than risking the young Tammy Abraham in Chelsea’s attack.

The former Arsenal man has got the experience needed to flourish against the Germans while having the required exposure that match Chelsea’s reputation at the European level.  He is inform and it will be great for him to start while acknowledging the aerial threat he’s got like he did with a goal which was ruled out against Manchester United.

Tammy is just recovering from injury and it may be a risk throwing him into tray from the start. The player is young and can study the game on the bench while coming off the bench to threaten the tiring Bayern’s defence with his pace and dribbling qualities. This would do for Chelsea even as Abraham could be the joker for Chelsea while allowing Giroud to build his confidence even as he performed at the weekend against Jose Mourinho Spurs side.
