Chelsea’s veteran striker, Olivier Giroud has the feeling of being underappreciated and disrespected in his entire footballing career. The Chelsea goal-machine thinks being underrated both domestically and internationally nut accepts not going to win favor with everyone.
The 34 years old striker has won the World Cup with France and has a total of over 100 goals with Arsenal. Until now, Giroud has even scored 37 goals in his Chelsea career. His career has been beautifully decorated by major silverware for both his country and his clubs.
He has been a reliable player under France coach, Didier Deschamps and the French attack without Giroud is unthinkable. Giroud seemed disappointed while speaking on Stadium Astro(via Chelsea’s Official Website). The veteran striker stated the fact that even though his performances for the clubs, he goes under terrible criticisms. But he also concluded that despite all of the negative vibes he feels from outside, his mind is not affected as long as he performs for the Blues and makes his close ones proud with his performance.
‘There is nobody who will be praised by everybody. It’s part of football, it’s part of the game. Maybe sometimes I am underrated but the most important thing is the numbers. For a striker that is what matters. As long as I am efficient for the team and Les Bleus and making my family proud, the rest I concede,’ said Giroud.
Giroud even opens up on the current situation at Chelsea. He was down the pecking order and not getting minutes under Frank Lampard at the start of the season but he has turned the tables now with his incredible performance and even bagged four goals in a single game of UCL. He appreciated the coach as well and thinks that the experience the coach brings as a player has helped a lot.
‘It’s nice to have a young manager,’ the World Cup winner said.
‘He is still learning through his career but has already got a lot of qualities to manage a team. He has got good ideas. It’s always nice to see a manager who was a big player and who won a lot of things and can help you to improve.’
He appreciates Lampard and considers that Lampard will have a long run in his managerial career. He is aware of how big a player Lampard was and thinks his experience of winning major trophies is an added advantage to the team.
