Italian defender Davide Zappacosta has officially completed a loan move to Serie A club AS Roma on Thursday from Premier League outfit Chelsea on an initial six-month loan deal.
Frank Lampard’s Chelsea has been struck with a transfer ban which means that they will be ineligible to sign any players over the next two transfer windows which meant that no player can join the club in almost a year. Something that has not even helped Chelsea is the fact that they have not been able to register a win over the three games in all competitions suffering two losses and one draw at home against Leicester City.
However, the European transfer window shuts on September 2nd and Chelsea have the option to offload a few players whose services might not be required for the near future. One player who was on the exit door at Stamford Bridge was right-back Davide Zappacosta as the 27-year-old was put out of the starting eleven by Cesar Azpilicueta.
Zappacosta signed for Chelsea back in 2017 on a four-year contract from Torino in a £23 million deal and went on to make 22 appearances for the Blues in their debut season. But Zappacosta did not manage to make more than four appearances last season and the club was considering the option to sell the defender.
However, Chelsea offered Zappacosta a one-year contract extension which the player signed then the West London outfit decided to loan him out to Roma for six months with the option for the Italians to keep him on a season-long loan.
After signing for Roma, Zappacosta said, “I am pleased to join Roma, after an experience overseas that helped me progress as both a player and a person. Being able to play for a great club like this is a huge motivation. I cannot wait to start training.”
