Ending months of negotiations between the two clubs, Chelsea FC have confirmed the signing of Ben Chilwell from Leicester City in a deal reported to be worth £50 million. The 23-year old left-back will sign for the Blues on a five-year deal ahead of the 2020-21 season.

The ex-Foxes’ star’s capture was announced by the west London club across their social media platforms. Chelsea FC supporters were getting extremely restless in recent days after reports had emerged indicating that Chilwell was undergoing a medical ahead of a move to the Blues.
Chilwell had always been Frank Lampard’s priority signing at the left side of the defense after it had been confirmed that the Chelsea FC boss was in the market to sign a new full-back for his side. Marcos Alonso and Emerson both had failed to impress Lampard last season at the left-back slot last season, Lampard’s first in charge of the Stamford Bridge outfit.
The English international was in flying form for Brendan Rodger’s Leicester City side that narrowly missed out on a top-four finish in the 2019-20 Premier League campaign. Chilwell’s performances across the league season were hailed by many across England and caught the eye of a number of top clubs in top-flight football.
Lampard has spared no expense in making sure that the Blues are all raring to go in the coming years. A weakened defensive core was noticeable in the Chelsea FC lineup last season that the Blues coach sought to improve through new signings in the summer transfer window, with Chilwell being just the first of a possible three signings to be made by Lampard to fortify his team’s backline.
