Billy Gilmour was praised by his new coach Daniel Farke with the Chelsea loanee making his debut for Norwich City following his move to Carrow Road on a season-long loan agreement.
The 20-year-old Scotland international played the first half of Norwich City’s 3-1 win over King’s Lynn Town in their pre-season game ahead of the start of the new Premier League campaign.
Norwich swooped in to land Gilmour’s sought after signature earlier this summer with Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel deciding to ship out the highly-promising midfield talent on a year-long loan to ensure regular minutes on the football come his way.
Chelsea’s midfield trio of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic have made it difficult for Gilmour to rise up the pecking order which facilitated his move away from Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window currently underway.
Following his debut outing for The Canaries, Gilmour was subject to lavish praise from Farke who admitted that he needed to be careful with the youngster who tested positive for COVID-19 during the UEFA European Championships last month.
“We are happy to have him but we have to be realistic,” Farke said to the Eastern Daily Press.
“We don’t want to praise him too much or put too much pressure on him. He had a great game for his national team and is part of a big team at Chelsea but we have to be a bit careful.
“He is a great character. He only arrived on Thursday after some more days off for the Euros. We did some tests and his first training session was with the team on Friday morning.
“I wouldn’t do that with a 37-year-old but with a young player you can throw them into the cold water. He proved he could swim. “
