Newcastle United are reportedly leading the race to sign Chelsea first-team player Ross Barkley in the forthcoming January transfer window.
The 27-year-old midfield man has seen very limited first-team action under the charge of Thomas Tuchel despite the Chelsea boss extending opportunities to Barkley in recent weeks in light of the ever-increasing injury crisis for the Blues.
Barkley has impressed in the game time he has secured under his belt and Chelsea could be lured into sending the player out on loan come January with interest high in landing Barkley’s signature from a host of sides across the land.
Reports from TeamTalk suggest that it is Newcastle United who are the frontrunners ahead of the likes of Everton and Leeds United to snap up Barkley from Chelsea with a loan to buy option rumoured to be in the works.
Barkley has 18 months left on his current deal at the Bridge and should he step up with his showings over the course of this ongoing campaign, he could be in line to earn extended terms from the Chelsea camp.
