Newcastle United are leading the chase to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher should the Magpies qualify for the Champions League next season.
The England international was floated for a potential departure from the Stamford Bridge camp in the January transfer window but Chelsea rebuffed interest from elsewhere in his services after parting ways with Jorginho who signed for Arsenal on deadline day.
According to a report from The Evening Standard, it is claimed that the 23-year-old Gallagher has plenty of admirers across the country with the high-flying Newcastle the current frontrunners to land his signature in the summer.
Crystal Palace and Everton are also interested in the Blues midfielder who is set to stay put with Graham Potter’s side beyond the mid season window with Chelsea deeming the youngster key to the squad for the second half of the season.
Jorginho’s exit to join the league leaders Arsenal has left Chelsea short of quality options in the heart of the midfield and despite the record signing of Enzo Fernandez, Potter would be glad to have a player of Gallagher’s ability to count upon.
