Newcastle United are reportedly engaged in talks with Chelsea over a loan deal for Timo Werner who is tipped to leave the English capital this summer.
Werner has found himself on the fringes of the Chelsea squad and could be forced to seek a new club before the transfer window slams shut with the German keen to feature for his country in the FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year.
With limited first-team football expected to come his way at Stamford Bridge in the coming season, the striker has decided to demand a move elsewhere with Chelsea willing to part ways with the 26-year-old.
According to a report from The Daily Mirror, Premier League side Newcastle United have surprisingly emerged as the frontrunners to land Werner’s signature on loan with the deal likely to be made permanent come next year.
Werner’s former club RB Leipzig have also expressed a strong interest in moving in for the Chelsea outcast but the Bundesliga side have shown an unwillingness to match his wage demands which are around the £270,000 per week mark.
