Newcastle look to trump Chelsea to wantaway centre-back Jules Kounde

Newcastle United are looking to trump Chelsea to wantaway centre-back Jules Kounde who has been a long-standing target for Thomas Tuchel.

The Chelsea boss has his task cut out this summer to rebuild his defensive ranks after losing both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen on free transfers to Real Madrid and FC Barcelona respectively.

With uncertainty on the rise over Cesar Azpilicueta’s future with the Chelsea skipper wanted by Barca, talks to bring in Kounde are said to be of much importance to Tuchel who is now backed by the club’s incoming owners led by Todd Boehly.

According to Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo ( via The Daily Express), however, Chelsea are not the only English top flight side chasing Kounde with Newcastle United, following their newly-found Saudi backing, keen on moving in for the Sevilla central defender.

The France international, meanwhile, would prefer a move to Camp Nou but a move to Barcelona could fall through owing to the financial constraints which have been a source of concern for the Catalan giants.
