Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has stated that he loves Frank Lampard but wants him to lose on Sunday when the Blues visit the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in a key battle for a top-four spot in the Premier League.
Spurs have cut the gap to Lampard’s fourth-placed Chelsea down to just three points ever since the 56 year old ‘Special One’ replaced Mauricio Pochettino as Tottenham’s head coach last month.
Last season, Lampard was in charge of Derby County and the Rams dumped Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United out of the League Cup at Old Trafford which was another nail in his coffin before he eventually got the sack.
And now Sunday’s encounter will be the first Premier League showdown with Mourinho and Lampard in opposing dugouts after the pair had tasted great success together during their time at Chelsea.
Ahead of the game, Mourinho was asked whether he would invite the 41-year-old Lampard for a drink after the game, the Portuguese manager replied, “I don’t think so because our stadium is built in the way that our office is completely on the inside of our private headquarters. Until now I didn’t invite any managers to go there and I don’t think I’ll do that with Frank.
However, he further continued by stating that his feeling for Lampard will always remain but there is no love during the ninety minutes of football, “But like I used to say, a big hug before the game and another after the game, that’s for sure, independent of results and who is happy. I think our feelings will be forever. I’ll always be grateful to him for what he gave me as a player. Nothing is going to change that. I love the guy, I will always love the guy. I hope he loses on Sunday.”
