Mason Mount’s move to Manchester United is all but sealed, pending a medical test.
The Chelsea midfielder has been a long-term target for the Red Devils, and the club from Manchester will be delighted to have landed him. His agreement with Manchester United will be a five-year deal, with Chelsea receiving £55 million in guaranteed transfer fees and another £5 million in add-ons. The deal will last until 2028 with an option for Mount and Manchester United to extend it by another year.
Manchester United have an exciting time ahead of them with Mason Mount. Aged still 24, he has a lot of time to make his mark in Old Trafford. As his first permanent move away from his boyhood club, Chelsea, this will be a reinvigorating experience for the midfielder from Portsmouth. At the same time, things will be a little bit different in United when compared to the West London club, so it might take him some getting used to.
Mount has just had his toughest challenge in a Chelsea shirt in 2022/23 and will be looking to bounce back better than ever in new colours. With only 3 goals and 6 assists in all competitions last year (35 games played), Mount hasn’t delivered on his expectations built up over his last few years at the club.
Mount is expected to be a regular starter at United, with him providing support to Bruno Fernandes in the attack, and Casemiro in the defence. He will most likely be deployed in the same role as Christian Eriksen, playing his natural role as a box-to-box midfielder with an emphasis on linking play between the defence and the midfield. Erik Ten Hag is reportedly a huge fan of Mason’s work rate, which may play a big role in how he’s played.
Whether he performs or flops, one thing is for certain – Mount playing for a club other than Chelsea will be interesting to watch.
