Chelsea goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy opened up on their recent struggle of bad form and losing point after getting beaten by Leicester City 2-0 in the away fixture of Premier League.
Mendy although made a number of excellent saves against Leicester but all went in vain when the home side smashed two goals and Mendy could have done nothing to stop those. But he wants to remain optimistic and pinpointed the areas of struggle. He talked about getting back on track. James Maddison and Ndidi are the two goal scorers for Leicester. Mendy saved an excellent effort from Jamie Vardy to prevent a bigger scoreline horror.
‘We wanted to start well, but we put ourselves in danger from a free-kick we weren’t ready for and then a corner they scored the first goal from,’ he said as per the Official Chelsea Website.
‘We knew beforehand they were a team that it is difficult to come back against. We tried, but I think we were dangerous going forward on too few occasions to really worry them.’
Mendy didn’t taste defeat in his first 13 games for the Blues and now it is the first time he is going through a rough patch collectively with the team. He has been on the losing end in five out of the last eight matches for the Blues.
‘What we are missing at the moment is consistency, being good for the whole match. We often have a bad patch, concede a goal and it makes it too hard to recover. We need to find more consistency in matches to be able to get past this level of the team.
‘It’s difficult to explain because we were in good form and then we got into difficulty. It happened very quickly. We need to concentrate on the return phase now and getting near the levels we were at.
‘It’s up to us to rectify the current situation and above all show more. We have to stay together and stay as positive as possible during this delicate moment.’
He suggested that the team must get back consistency soon. the Blues were dominant in possession in the majority of the match but some quick spells have let them down and the result has been not in their favor as a result. But it is they who can turn around the situation and bring back the form that they showed at the end of 2020.
