The Blues manager Maurizio Sarri has revealed that he was unhappy following Chelsea’s slim 1-0 victory over BATE Borisov in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Chelsea is still unbeaten this season and the West London club seem to be doing exceedingly well at the moment under new boss Maurizio Sarri. The Italian mastermind has guided Chelsea to 2nd place in the Premier League and they are certainly title contenders for the title. Sarri also knocked out high flying Liverpool in the League Cup earlier this season which keeps them in the hunt for more silverware.
In the Europa League, Chelsea ensured that they will make it through their group L as they came away with three points from Belarus defeating BATE Borisov by 1-0. French striker Olivier Giroud got the all-important goal for the away side as he netted his first goal in 794 minutes of club football. But according to Maurizio Sarri, Giroud’s goal was probably one of the only few positives on the night.
While speaking to reporters after the game, the 59-year-old Chelsea manager explained that his side was lethargic as the home team saw three of their efforts off the post, including one in stoppage time, “We didn’t play very well. I didn’t like the first half because we moved the ball only slowly. It was very difficult to be dangerous, but we were better in the first 25 minutes of the second half. We didn’t manage the last 15 minutes well. The best thing is the result. It wasn’t very easy to play a good game here, with the conditions”
Sarri went on to explain that he was very pleased to see Giroud score a goal and claimed that the 32-year-old is very important for the club, “I am pleased for him. He is very important for us; I know very well a striker wants to score. For his confidence, it is very important.”
All that really matters is that Chelsea is through to the next round and Sarri and probably concentrate on the upcoming fixture at the weekend. It goes to show how important it is for Sarri to win games comprehensively and turn upon such occasions.
