Mateo Kovacic was named the Chelsea FC men’s team Player of the Year for the 2019-20 season on Tuesday. The Croatian international’s first full-fledged season in the Blues shirt was a massive success for the player who completed a move to Stamford Bridge last summer from Real Madrid.

The award, which is traditionally bestowed upon a player at an annual dinner ceremony hosted by the club, was unveiled online due to the aftereffects of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. The Chelsea FC supporters were asked to cast their votes in favor of whom they believed to be their club’s best player on the pitch last season.
And the 26-year old Kovacic was declared the winner of the fan vote following his brilliant 2019-20 campaign for Frank Lampard’s side. The Croatian midfielder was an enduring presence in the center of the park for the Blues with his visionary passing and tireless work rate.
The ex-Real Madrid man featured 47 times for the west London club, scoring two goals and providing three assists in the process. His appearances last season for the Blues were only bettered by two of his teammates, an astounding benchmark set by the player considering the level of competition in the midfield department at the Stamford Bridge outfit.
A couple of minor injury troubles did curtail Kovacic’s playing time here and there, however, the midfielder was all set to give his best for the Blues.
