Chelsea midfielder, Mason Mount has expressed gratitude for the former coach, Frank Lampard after the club owner sacked him. Following the one after another defeat in the Premier League in their last eight matches, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich made the decision to put an end to Lampard’s tenure at Stamford Bridge on Monday morning, less than two years after he succeeded Maurizio Sarri in west London.
Even the 3-1 win over Championship side Luton Town in FA Cup on Sunday afternoon could not save Lampard from being the latest manager to leave the hot-seat of Chelsea.
As soon as the rumors of the removal of Lampard come officially true, an array of members of the first-team squad reacted to Lampard’s dismissal through social media messages. They also pay tribute to their former manager by sending heartfelt social media messages and bid goodbye.
‘It’s a tough time for the club,’ said the 22-year-old, reacting to the news this week as per Chelsea Official Website. ‘I’ve been here for a very long time and seen managers depart from afar while being in the Academy but when you’re in the first team building and it happens, it’s a different feeling.
‘It’s something us younger players haven’t really experienced before but we speak to the likes of Azpi [Cesar Azpilicueta] and Petr Cech, who have been through it, and try to get any bit of experience from them on how to deal with it.’
‘He’s been very important to me,’ the midfielder continued. ‘He brought me to Derby, gave me the playing time and I learned so much under him there before coming back to Chelsea and continuing my learning.
‘I have nothing but praise and gratitude for everything he’s given me as a player on and off the pitch. I’ve definitely grown as a player as well so he obviously means a lot to me.’
The latest of them to be emotional was Mason Mount, who was one of the biggest benefactors of Lampard’s arrival at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2019.
Mount, like many of his Academy contemporaries, was trusted by Lampard and even captained the team in the FA Cup victory over Luton Town last weekend.
Having spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Derby County under Lampard’s watch, Mount soon established himself as a regular in west London, featuring in 53 games in all competitions. He netted eight goals and registered six assists last season.
As Lampard is not available now, Mount will be hoping to sustain as a key player in Chelsea’s plans moving forward, although Tuchel, might have some other plans to make changes to the team and stamp his own mark on the squad he will manage.
