Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has refused to rule out midfielder Mason Mount’s chances of playing against table-toppers Liverpool on Sunday in the Premier League.
Mount limped out of the Champions League defeat by Valencia on Tuesday with a nasty looking ankle injury after he was caught by a strong tackle from former Arsenal man Francis Coquelin.
But his manager still has hopes of Mount featuring on Sunday,
‘He’s got a chance,’ he said. ‘We all saw the image of the tackle which made it look really bad but we are trying to get him moving today. We’ll make a call before the game.’
N’Golo Kante is also in contention having returned to training following an ankle injury.
‘It’s a boost with N’Golo, we all know the importance of him to the team,’ added Lampard. ‘The only question is how to fit he is. We have to manage him but it’s great to have him back in and around us.’
Mason Mount has been a key player for Lampard’s side this season starting all of Chelsea’s five Premier League games this season. The 20-year-old has been impressive, scoring three goals in five League games. His form this season earned him a call up to the England national team by Gareth Southgate where he came off the bench in games against Bulgaria and Kosovo.
Kante’s fitness will also be a huge boost for Lampard after he was impressive against Liverpool in the UEFA super cup last month.
