Football pundit, Danny Murphy has been highly impressed by the performance of Mason Mount in 3-0 victory against Burnley and has praised the youngster.
The academy graduate of Chelsea was literally everywhere on the pitch and no other player had one or more attempts or completed passes leading to big chances than him. He is tied with French midfielder, N’Golo Kante with three tackles and his high intensity pressing restricted Burnley from getting into their rhythm.
Murphy spoke about the England international and praised how he stood out as a number eight in the 4-3-3 formation of Lampard.
‘Look at the numbers for Mason Mount today,’ he said, as reported by the Daily Express.
’We’ve talked about his energy before, his tenacity, all those aspects, but the creativity of him I think gets a little underplayed at times.’
‘This is what I want to see from him in that position, all over the pitch, getting on the ball, driving forward, bringing other players into play.’
Murphy is also of the opinion that England coach, Gareth Southgate can deploy Mount in the centre of the pitch for England if he excels more in the position he is playing under Lampard.
The Chelsea coach gave a key role to the England midfielder under him after an impressive loan spell with Derby County in 2018/19. Since then, Mount has played in all Premier League matches leaving one match and for this Lampard has come under criticism from supporters too.
On the weekend, his stats are staggering as he completed 73 of his 80 passes (91 per cent pass completion) and won three tackles apart from two shots on target.
