Former Chelsea defender Ashley Cole has admitted that young sensation Mason Mount has a bright future ahead of him because he has the mentality to becoming a top player.
Chelsea hasn’t really had the best of starts to the Premier League season under new manager Frank Lampard. The 41-year-old has managed only five points out of a possible 12 so far in four games but there is a silver lining because the young players are showing their capabilities to Lampard and the future looks bright.
Lampard had only one season of managing experience when he spent the last term at Championship club Derby County and almost guided the Rams to Premier League promotion. But the English manager also had a bunch of players that he is currently linked to as Mason Mount was playing under Lampard the last term as well.
The 20-year-old scored 11 goals in 44 appearances and was quite a threat in attacking positions and has already started this season with flying colors scoring two goals and starting all four of Chelsea’s league games so far. Former Chelsea defender Ashely Cole also was with Derby County last term and the 38-year-old has heaped praise on Mount’s ability.
While speaking to Metro, Cole explained that Mount has a bright future ahead of him if he decides to work hard, “Obviously I had the pleasure to play with him at Derby last season and, for me, he was our best and the main player, He’s definitely matured and improved from the time I saw him with Chelsea’s Under-9s. It’s down to him now. ‘He’s a player that always comes into training early, he gives 100 percent in training and, for me, that’s what you need to be a top player is a great mentality and he has that. It’s down to him if he wants to work hard and improve under Frank and, of course, he’s going to get chances.”
