According to French outlet L’Equipe, Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram has reportedly rejected an offer from Chelsea for a potential move in the summer.
The 25-year-old is set to leave Monchengladbach as a free agent at the end of the season, having recorded 16 goals and seven assists in 31 games across various competitions this campaign.
Thuram impressed with his performances at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, despite limited playing time. He played 146 minutes across five games and provided two assists.
According to the report, Chelsea, who are in search of a striker for the upcoming season, made a substantial offer to Thuram.
However, the French forward has declined the offer due to concerns about the club’s instability, as the Blues has endured a difficult season.
Additionally, the club is currently without a manager, although Mauricio Pochettino has been heavily linked with the position. Thuram is rumored to be seeking a move to a club that can offer UEFA Champions League football, which Chelsea is unable to provide due to their current 12th position in the Premier League.
As a result, the Frenchman may consider a move to Manchester United, as they are likely to secure qualification for the Champions League next season.
United, who need to sign a striker as loanee Wout Weghorst is expected to return to Burnley, could be in competition with Chelsea for Thuram’s signature.
The two clubs will face each other in a Premier League match at Old Trafford on Thursday, May 25. A draw in the match would be sufficient for United to secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
