Chelsea FC have monitored Manchester United’s backup shot-stopper Sergio Romero to provide competition for the out-of-favor Kepa at the Stamford Bridge outfit next season.
The Argentine goalkeeper’s future in the Red Devils shirt is looking uncertain due to Dean Henderson returning to Old Trafford following a two season-loan loan at Sheffield United. The 23-year old is highly likely to assume the duties as a potential backup for David de Gea in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad, according to reports.
This would mean that Romero’s time at Manchester United could be over as early as this summer’s transfer window. Several mid-table Premier League clubs have reportedly expressed interest in making a move for the 33-year old, with Aston Villa being considered the frontrunners to sign the Argentine international.
The Blues are counting on Romero to provide them with a cheap alternative to Kepa at the west London club. Despite not being a first-team type of option, the Red Devils goalie could be a worthwhile choice for Frank Lampard’s side for the upcoming 2020-21 season.
