Manchester United are said to be in pole position to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea but the Red Devils are not convinced over Chelsea’s likely asking price for the midfielder.
Mount’s current terms at the Bridge expire next summer and there is the expectation that Chelsea could be forced to part ways with their wantaway star now than lose him for nothing in 2024.
According to a report from ESPN, it is claimed that the United camp are now holding internal discussions over launching a formal bid to land Mount’s signature despite Chelseas said to be keen to pocket a sizable amount from the sale.
United and the other interested parties, including the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal, are hopeful that believe they can secure a deal for less than the rumoured £60 million price tag considering the short time remaining on his Mount’s contract.
Mount has so far appeared reluctant to accept a knockdown salary figure from the Blues to extend his stay in west London with the England international not being offered a sum comparable to teammate Reece James’ £250,000-a-week deal.
