Former Manchester City man Trevor Sinclair has backed his old club to make a move for Stamford Bridge outcast Tammy Abraham rather than go after Tottenham Hotspur talisman Harry Kane this summer.
In an interview with TalkSport, Sinclair has made a surprising backing of Manchester City pursuing Abraham’s signature in what will be a major cut-price deal for the Premier League holders than chase Spurs frontman Harry Kane.
Kane too is linked with a move away from London with Manchester City rumoured to be the frontrunners to sign the England skipper for a fee which is sure to go north of £150 million.
“I would, yeah.
“He’s a young enough player and with Pep Guardiola’s coaching ability and the teammates around him… he’s a top player.
“The season he had at Aston Villa and then he went back to Chelsea and did very well. He’s a handful, his pace, he looks to stretch the lines, he’s a finisher.
“No player’s perfect, especially at 22 or 23, but there’s a lot of growth there with Tammy.
“He’d be someone I’d be very interested to see at Manchester City.”
On City’s reported £160m bid for Kane, Sinclair added: “It just goes against my principles of what I think about the club. Honestly, it really does.
“I just don’t want to see the club going out there and spending that ridiculous amount of money to bring one player in. That just kills it then. You might as well pack up.”
Abraham has been heavily linked with a move away from Chelsea in this summer’s transfer window which is now underway with the forward falling down the pecking order in the attacking department since Thomas Tuchel took over from Frank Lampard.
With Tuchel on the lookout for a new striker to bolster his side’s options up top on the pitch, Abraham has been deemed surplus to requirements and is understood to be made available for other clubs should they shell out a £40 million transfer fee for the England international.
