Manchester City hold an edge over domestic rivals Chelsea for landing the much-coveted signature of Benfica star forward Darwin Nunez.
According to reports from The Daily Star, the defending champions of England are joined by Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea in the pursuit of the 22-year-old striker who has been a star turn for Benfica of late.
Despite Chelsea, Manchester United and Bayern Munich all being understood to be keeping close tabs on the Uruguayan attacker, Manchester City are the frontrunners in the widely-contested race for Nunez owing to the great transfer relationship between the Portuguese club and Pep Guardiola’s camp at the Eithad Stadium.
City have made major signings from Benfica in the recent past for big-name players who now are star regulars for the Premier League holders and Guardiola is keen to make the high-flying Nunez his latest addition, suggests the rumour mill.
The forward has netted six goals in seven games this season, two of which came in Benfica’s shock yet superb 3-1 win over FC Barcelona, and looks set for an incredible campaign in both domestic and continental action.
