Chelsea crashed out of the FA Cup with a thumping 4-0 defeat to Manchester City in Sunday’s third-round clash at the Etihad Stadium.
MATCH PROCEEDINGS
City forced Chelsea goalie Kepa into action early on with a low cross from Riyad Mahrez who did not have to wait for long to open the scoring for his side.
The winger netted from a free kick with his strike bending into the top corner past Kepa to make it 1-0 for the home side as the lead was doubled just minutes later.
Kai Havertz handled the ball inside the box from a City corner and the resulting spot kick was dispatched with much ease by Julian Alvarez.
The hosts had Phil Foden slot home from close range to make it 3-0 past the half-hour mark with the English playmaker teed up by Kyle Walker to all but ensure the win for his side before the break.
Chelsea rang in changes off the bench in the second period with Denis Zakaria and new boy Fofana coming on to replace Kovacic and Havertz.
City, however, piled more misery upon the visitors with the fourth goal of the night coming from Mahrez who netted from the spot after Koulibaly had fouled Foden inside the box.
