The visitors were in for a great chance in the opening minutes of the game with Romelu Lukaku through on goal but his pass for Ziyech turning to be out of reach.
Lukaku was hoping for the reverse just moments later but this time it was Ziyech with too strong a pass for the Belgian striker to get on the end of and trouble City No.1 Ederson.
On the other end of the pitch, Chelsea’s man between the goalposts Kepa put out a convincing display to keep out the likes of John Stones and Jack Grealish from finding the back of the net with important stops.
Tuchel’s men enjoyed a burst going forward but Lukaku’s effort was denied by Ederson as on the rebound Ziyech saw his strike high over the bar.
Kepa kept out a Kevin de Bruyne free-kick but the Manchester City playmaker was there to hand his side the advantage with an excellent piece of work on the ball before slotting a thumping effort past the Chelsea goalie.
Changes from the bench for the Blues were not able to swing the game back in their favour with the defending champions seeing out the dying embers with strong work at the back.
