Chelsea edged out Malmo in a closely contested affair in the Champions League with Thomas Tuchel’s men recording a narrow 1-0 win on their travels to Sweden.
MATCH PROCEEDINGS
Both sides got the match underway on equal footing but it was the hosts who looked threatening in the final third of the pitch with the likes of Antonio Colak and Sebastian Nanasi on show.
Hakim Ziyech linked up well with his attacking partner Kai Havertz but saw his effort denied by Dahlin and Ziyech’s cross for Loftus-Cheek was headed wide by the England international.
Callum Hudson-Odoi came close to finding the back of the net only for his strike to be kept out by the Malmo shot-stopper Dahlin with a good save.
Perhaps the best chance of the opening 45 minutes came the way of Kai Havertz who might have taken a touch too extra on the ball to be closed down by the Malmo defenders.
Chelsea did get the second period of the match off to a flying start and it was Ziyech who got his side a well-deserved lead after being set up by Hudson-Odoi who was brilliant in his work on the flank.
Centre-back Thiago Silva nearly doubled the advantage for the visitors and substitute Ross Barkley hoped to add to the scoresheet but saw his effort blocked with the game finishing in a hard-earned win for Thomas Tuchel’s Blues.
