Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen has emerged as the favored destination for Chelsea FC to loan out new summer signing Malang Sarr for the upcoming 2020-21 season.
The 21-year old French defender joined Frank Lampard’s side on a free transfer on Thursday and became the Blues’ second defensive signing of the ongoing transfer window after Ben Chilwell, who too arrived at Stamford Bridge on the same day.
However, it is understood that Sarr is not an immediate first-team option for Lampard at Chelsea FC. Instead, the France U21 international will be loaned out for the next season to gain experience before making his debut for the west London club.
A decision to send Sarr on a season-long loan to Leverkusen is due to the Blues’ desire to sweeten a prospective deal for Kai Havertz. The German international remains a key transfer target for Lampard this summer after his fantastic run of form last season in front of the goal for the Die Werkself.

However, talks between the two sides have been on the halt lately due to Leverkusen’s asking price for the 21-year old playmaker. Havertz is being valued at £90 million by the Bundesliga outfit which is causing the Blues to consider sending a player or two in the other direction.
