Luis Enrique has been disappointed by Chelsea’s decision to hire Frank Lampard as the caretaker manager at the Bridge until the end of the season.
Lampard, who had been out of a job since Everton sacked him in January this year, was brought in to steer the ship through troubled waters on an interim basis with Chelsea handing the axe to Graham Potter.
The west London giants resisted the temptation to appoint a new permanent manager despite the likes of Enrique and former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann being linked with the top job at Stamford Bridge.
According to a report from the Spanish publication AS, it is claimed that Enrique was prepared to take over at Chelsea immediately and the ex-Barcelona manager was disappointed by Chelsea’s decision to hire Lampard on a temporary basis.
It is understood that Enrique remains one of the frontrunners to be appointed as the longer term manager for Chelsea who also have Nagelsmann on their radar with the campaign heading into its business end.
