Former England and Liverpool forward Emile Heskey has stated that Jurgen Klopp’s Reds will give Frank Lampard’s young Chelsea side a frightening lesson on Sunday.
Lampard has placed his faith in young academy players since his appointment in the summer and so far, the Englishman is reaping the rewards as Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, and Fikayo Tomori have been delivering the goods. But the Blues will face a big test on Sunday as Klopp’s Liverpool travel to Stamford Bridge in order to maintain their 100 percent win record this season.
The West London side was beaten 1-0 at home by Valencia in the Champions League on Tuesday and have conceded 14 goals already in their opening seven matches under Lampard in all competitions, failing to keep a single clean sheet.
On the other hand, the Merseyside giants have scored 17 goals in their opening seven games, and Heskey cannot see past an away win for Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
The 41-year-old praised Lampard for his job so far with the restrictions and promotion of youth but Hesky stated that Liverpool is too good for this young Chelsea group, “I’d expect Liverpool to win, I think Frank is doing a good job, in the sense that he’s allowing the youth to play. He’s giving them the freedom to go and play. They haven’t done necessarily great defensively and if you’re talking about the best attacking side in the league, it’s either Manchester City or Liverpool, and they’re coming up against Liverpool, so it’s going to be very, very tough for them.”
Heskey further explained that it will be very difficult for Chelsea to cope with the industrious front three of Liverpool, “When you’ve got [Mohamed] Salah, [Sadio] Mane and [Roberto] Firmino upfront, it’s going to be very, very difficult for Frank’s side. You’ve seen that they do tend to make a few mistakes, as most young players will, and against the bigger teams and better teams they will capitalize on that, and I expect them [Liverpool] to.”
