Chelsea’s increasingly positive progress under new boss Thomas Tuchel would be subject to a stern test when the Blues make the trip to Merseyside and square off against Liverpool.
Both teams are vying for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season and with Champions League football up for grabs, Thursday’s meeting at Anfield promises to be a high-octane showing.
Tuchel’s Chelsea outfit had been able to salvage a point from their latest outing in top-flight football, a goalless draw against second-placed Manchester United and the German coach would be hoping to steer his side to yet another favourable result this time around when on the road to the under-fire defending champions.
The Merseysiders had finally put an end to a four-game-long losing run as they ran out comfortable winners on their visit to basement side Sheffield United but Jurgen Klopp’s side would be aware of the danger a new-look Chelsea possess heading into the final three months of domestic action.

TEAM NEWS
Thiago Silva’s return to team training earlier this week provides Thomas Tuchel with a reliable name on his teamsheet should the Chelsea boss decide on handing a start to the veteran defender ahead of Andreas Christensen, with the latter impressing in the recent draw against Manchester United.
Callum Hudson-Odoi remains doubtful for the Anfield showdown following his recovery from an earlier injury, which means Tuchel could be tempted on starting Timo Werner once again on the flank.
