Liverpool vs. Chelsea: Possible Starting Eleven for Chelsea and Frank Lampard

Chelsea faces Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night as two English giants are set to battle in Istanbul, Turkey. Both teams will meet as they won the two prestigious trophies in European football at the end of last season.

Liverpool won the UEFA Champions League while Chelsea won the UEFA Europa League after beating Unai Emery’s Arsenal 4-1 in the final.

Frank Lampard faces a difficult decision as to what sort of team to play tonight as they look to bounce back from the disappointing match against Manchester United. After Sunday’s 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Manchester United the Chelsea legend was queried regarding his decision to leave out experienced players out of the Chelsea side as French player Olivier Giroud and N’golo Kante along with left-back Marcos Alonso and Chelsea’s new Number 10 Willian Borges was left out of the starting eleven at Old Trafford.

The likes of Mason Mount, Pedro Rodriguez, and Ross Barkley started behind Tammy Abraham as the young forward led the lines for the Blues.

Kante was left on the bench as he was still recovering from injury, while Willian was omitted from the squad altogether. Christian Pulisic was impressive after he was brought on in the second half against Manchester United and could be in line to start against Liverpool.

Abraham hit the post within the few minutes at Old Trafford and he was rather unfortunate not to get himself a goal. However, he could be replaced by the experienced French striker Olivier Giroud upfront which is relative to the striker’s goalscoring record in Europe last season. Giroud tallied 11 goals in 74 games in all competition including the one he scored against his former club Arsenal in the Europa League final.

He is expected to lead the charge for goal for the Blues while Pulisic who impressed after his substitute appearance may be trusted to start alongside Mason Mount and Ross Barkley. Lampard went on to state that he will pick the best team most available to him not regarding experience.

Chelsea could line up in a  4-2-3-1 formation to face Liverpool.

Kepa, Azpilicueta, Zouma, Christensen, Alonso, Jorginho, Kante, Pulisic, Mount, Barkley and Olivier Giroud.
