Chelsea have completed the permanent transfer of academy graduate Lewis Hall to Premier League rivals Newcastle United for £28 million, as he looked to have made the most of his loan spell at Magpies last season.
The Magpies clinched a deal that would prove to be a very handy cash injection for the Blues in their quest for adherence to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.
Signing for the Chelsea academy at Under-8 level, Hall now turns out permanently for Newcastle.
On loan last season, Hall featured 22 times for Eddie Howe’s side that also included a Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund in November.
Hall has also appeared in 12 first-team matches for Chelsea, making his debut in an FA Cup win at home to Chesterfield in January 2022.
Despite growing up in Berkshire, Hall is a lifelong Newcastle supporter, with his family coming from the North East.
Chelsea announced the transfer on social media, saying: “Chelsea can confirm Academy graduate Lewis Hall has completed a permanent transfer to Newcastle United. Wishing you the best in your future career, Lewis.”

The deal’s confirmation was thus soaked in a lot of excitement as it came out of Hall’s lips.
He believes, “I am extremely proud that I am able to build on last season and continue my journey at Newcastle United.
The fans, the manager, and his staff, my teammates, and everyone at the club have been so welcoming that I want to repay the faith they have shown in me.”.
“When you put on that black-and-white shirt, there is no feeling like it. Playing in front of the best set of supporters in this country is extra special to me. Last season was vast in experience for me, but the squad we have—this time around, we will be looking forward to even bettering that.”
This move reflects Chelsea’s policy of maintaining their financial health and allowing a promising young player to progress his development at the same time.
Newcastle will now want Hall to make a permanent starter that will reinforce their squad further in the coming season.
So, both clubs will benefit significantly from this strategic transfer move.
