Ex-German international Lukas Podolski has cast doubt over Chelsea FC target Kai Havertz replicating his Bundesliga performances in the Premier League. The 21-year old Havertz has been a superb attacking presence for Bayer Leverkusen scoring 18 goals and providing eight assists in the German top-flight division last season.
The Blues are in pole position to secure the youngster’s signing ahead of next season, reports suggest. There had been rumors of Havertz agreeing upon a potential five-year deal with Frank Lampard’s side, however, a transfer fee is yet to be sorted out between the two clubs.
While labeling the German starlet as a ‘great talent’, Podolski, a former Arsenal forward, voiced his apprehensions over Havertz adjusting to the more physical style of play that is adopted in the Premier League.
‘But he’s a great talent. On the ball he is so creative, but he’s still young — let’s see if he can fit into the Premier League.
‘I think he is still missing some strength and power, but he should taste the drink of the Premier League and see if he likes it.
Chelsea FC boss Frank Lampard will be hoping to finalize Havertz’s transfer approach before the 2020-21 season for the Blues gets underway. Despite the player’s willingness to sign for the Premier League outfit, Bayer Leverkusen are sticking to their €100million price-tag for the 21-year old German international.
