Leicester City goes to the Premier League top position after beating Chelsea 2-0 in their home ground. The defeat puts coach Frank Lampard’s job under scrutiny as it was the fifth defeat in the last eight games. Chelsea went nine points behind the league leaders as they stand in 8th position now.
Brendon Roger’s side put up a clinical display and sealed the game with goals from Wilfred Ndidi and James Maddison in the first-half. The scoreline could have been much worse as well as the Blues showed sluggish defending and out of character play.
But this wasn’t the result Lampard expected when he put Havertz, Hudson Odoi and Tammy Abraham in the starting XI to end the losing streak. The Blues had 65% possession on the ball but the home side looked more dangerous during their attack.
It was just the sixth-minute o the game when Ndidi opened the scoresheet to give Leicester a lead. Harvey Barnes missed a shot that fell in Ndidi’s feet and Ndidi made no mistake to slam it in the inside post. Lampard who talked about rebuilding the confidence of the team is himself not so confident in the manager’s position after the result.
Johnny Evans tackled Pulisic which the referee gave a penalty but the VAR ruled out to be a free-kick just outside the box. Mason Mount couldn’t take advantage and within just three minutes, Maddison blasted a neat finish to give a 2-0 lead. Timo Werner later scored a goal as well but VAR again ruled him a fraction offside which put any hopes of a comeback to bed.
