Former Chelsea defender, Frank Leboeuf is of the opinion that Chelsea’s winger Kai Havertz needs to offer more to the team with his abilities. The club put huge amount to sign him from Bayer Leverkusen after a long delay due to disagreement in the cost during the summer transfer window.
That made the German winger as the expensive player in the team as his deal cost £70 million ($90m). Leboeuf complained that the winger disappears frequently when the team needs him the most and has been unable to justify his price tag he came with.
Rather, the ex-defender of Chelsea was greatly impressed with another summer signing, Hakim Ziyech’s performance in the 3-0 win in the away match against Burnley. He also thinks that the Moroccan international can still raise his game to great heights.
“I think it’s getting better, some players are getting better,” Leboeuf told ESPN FC.
“I’m very pleased for Ziyech, getting fit and giving his best. But I’m still not convinced about Havertz, I still want more from him.”
“I want more impact from him where I think he disappears. I’m sure Frank is still not completely happy with the way they worked together. Sometimes it seemed like they were looking for each other like they don’t really know each other.”
“I’m looking for something better, much better from Chelsea. With the players they have, they’re capable of giving much more than we saw.”
Chelsea coach, Frank Lampard was considered to have pulled off quite the deal in luring Havertz to Stamford Bridge as he was persuaded by top European teams. He is considered as the generational talent and has been highly successful in his former club.
There has been a glimpse of what he is capable of doing which includes a hat-trick in the Carabao Cup. But it seems like he is still getting accustomed to the new weather and new League at such a young age and fair to say it is believable.
