Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has advised new Chelsea boss Frank Lampard to follow the same procedure as Jose Mourinho when the ‘Special One’ first took charge of the club.
Chelsea has had quite an exhausting few months as key Belgian playmaker Eden Hazard left the West London outfit and Maurizio Sarri also departed the club after just one season in charge. The Blues were also hit with a transfer ban which would keep them from signing any players for the next two transfer windows.
Frank Lampard was appointed as the man to handle the reigns at Chelsea after the 41-year-old former England midfielder spent one year in the Championship with Derby County almost guiding them to Premier League promotion. Lampard’s Chelsea career as a manager has not gotten off to a great start as he has managed only one win in four league games so far accumulating five points out of a possible 12 and losing the UEFA Super Cup against Liverpool as well.
But former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has admitted that Lampard should take a lead from Jose Mourinho’s book in order to succeed at Stamford Bridge. The 51-year-old Englishman said that Lampard should concentrate on the results rather than the performances, “Winning games is a hard thing to do when you’ve lost your best player, and one of the best players in the world in Eden Hazard. Frank is up against it. I think he’ll get patience, but at the moment, I think you don’t always have to entertain. Do a Mourinho! You sometimes think in a job: Oh, I have to keep entertaining here, otherwise, the fans are going to get the hump!’ ‘In the end, you don’t need to do that, you need to be clued up, take the three points.”
