Lampard opens up on his partnership with Drogba and insists to make relationships

Chelsea’s manager, Frank Lampard spoke about the relationship he had with Chelsea’s undoubted best goal machine in all decades, Didier Drogba. He reflected that with his recent observation on how his team unity and cohesion has improved in the past weeks.

Lampard’s side has been in excellent form and is still unbeaten in the last past six matches since the Carabao Cup defeat against Tottenham in the penalty shootout.

Lampard talked about the relationship he had with Drogba and compared how he had a telepathic understanding with the Ivory Cost’s striker during their course of eight years that they played as teammates for the Blues.

People are talking a lot about the partnership of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son at Tottenham Hotspur recently as together they have moved to the second spot of the all-time Premier League goal/assist combinations list, having made the numerical figure of 29.

The pair leading it is Lampard himself with his former teammate Didier Drogba with a numerical figure of 36 and he explains why it was so successful.

“It came with work. We were good friends and we became best of friends. We didn’t go out that much together but we had a really good relationship off the pitch and we spoke a lot in training.”

“I’ve been watching back some of the balls I’d play over the top one-touch for Didier – it was a pass I loved and I knew Didier would run. We would talk about the timing of it, exactly where he wanted it, the defender he felt would get sucked into that first movement.”

“When things went wrong, we worked together in training and we used to stay outside a lot. It takes work and it takes relationships. You cannot do everything on your own so we have to build those relationships now all over the team,” said Lampard in the Official Chelsea website.

Chelsea’s recent streak has been appreciated by numerous big pundits of football and Lampard says that maintaining unity is ultimate. He advises that if something doesn’t work on the pitch, one should try it and practice it out in the training together with the teammates as togetherness will release the obstacles in front.
