Chelsea coach, Frank Lampard was seen in a good mood as he recollected all the memories of the FA Cups in the latest Ask Frank video. Although his side faced Morecambe, Lampard was enjoying his interview where he spoke about his previous weekend and how the training shave been going.
Chelsea had gone through a rough couple of weeks as they were beaten 3-1 by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at Stamford Bridge itself in their latest Premier League match.
The Blues’ coach discussed how much he loves the FA Cup and expresses the numerous lovely memories of his footballing career bonded with it.
Although Morecambe was an easy opponent, he was determined to win it with a big margin. He recalls one of the years in 1998 when the Blues were thrown away from the competition from round three. The coach says that sometimes the teams from the lower tables become huge hurdles as well for the big clubs.
‘We had pretty good times and sometimes you draw lower league opponents and it can be difficult in different ways but you have to do the job right,’ he said as per Chelsea’s Official website.
‘I remember we played Macclesfield and Jose Mourinho was our manager and he gave me four days off in the week and said go away, you are not going to play this game, have a rest and I started to relax for three days. Then he called me on Friday afternoon and told me that I need to play.
‘I had actually gone to the countryside for a couple of days so I drove back, turned up at the hotel in the morning, started the game and scored a hat-trick, so I was pleased come the evening that I had racked up a few goals on my list. We beat them 6-1 but it was not ideal preparation, four days in the countryside. I had probably eaten too much but I managed to turn it around and it is a nice memory from those early days of the cup.’
Frank Lampard recalls a moment in his career when Jose Mourinho was the manager of their team. It was a time when Chelsea was yet to face Macclesfield when Mourinho sent Lampard to four days rest. Lampard took the days and went in for a small trip to the countryside when suddenly Mourinho called him to play the match. Lampard played it and scored a brilliant hattrick.
It was one of the pleasant memories from his career that remains vivid in his mind whenever he prepares for the FA Cup.
