Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has confirmed that midfielder N’Golo Kante is available for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Ajax after returning from injury.
The World Cup winning French international has not featured for the Blues ever since injuring his groin during the warm-up ahead of his country’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Iceland on October 14.
However, after missing five games for the West London outfit, Kante returned to training for Chelsea on Monday and is in consideration for the visit of Dutch champions Ajax at Stamford Bridge. The 28-year-old has been imperative for the Blues ever since signing for the club but has not been able to feature as much as he would have liked under new boss Frank Lampard.
While speaking to reporters in a press conference the 41-year-old Englishman was asked about the injury concerning Kante and Lampard said. “He is in the squad. It looks like the injuries are clearing up.”
However, Lampard was unable to confirm when the German center back Antonio Rudiger might return to the first-team action following a knee injury. The 26-year-old defender was forced off at half-time in Chelsea’s 5-2 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers on September 14, which remains his only appearance for the Chelsea first team since sustaining a knee problem back in April.
Chelsea is on the level with Dutch champions Ajax on six points at the top of Group H in the Champions League, with Spanish side Valencia two points further back. Lampard’s side has also racked up five wins in a row across all competitions and sit in fourth place on the Premier League table.
