Mason Mount has revealed that his Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has been helping him to improve his finishing.
The 20-year-old has had a dream start to his Premier League and Chelsea career, Mount has started all of Chelsea’s four Premier League games this season and has scored two goals from midfield. The Blues have not had the best of starts this season, sitting eleventh in the Premier League but the homegrown midfielder has shone.
The former Derby loanee is with the England national team after being called up by Gareth Southgate for the European Championship qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo, Mount will hope he can win his first cap for England against Bulgaria.
Speaking ahead of the game he said about Lampard: ‘After training, we would do some finishing sometimes. ‘Obviously talking to him every day, especially after games, [he] tells me what I can do better, where I can make the runs and where I can get into the box. ‘I’m always speaking to him and trying to learn things every day. Mostly after training, we do finishing and there’s no better person to learn from than him!’
Mount’s first loan spell was at Eredivise side Vitesse Arnhem where he showed his goalscoring potential, scoring regularly for Vitesse Arnhem. Mount earned a place in the Eredivisie Team of the Year in 2017-18 after scoring 14 goals in 39 games for Vitesse.
He then spent last season on loan at Derby County where he was managed by current Chelsea boss Frank Lampard. he netted 11 times in 44 matches for Derby under Lampard.
Lampard established himself as one of the best goalscoring midfielders in the world as a player with Chelsea, scoring a remarkable 211 goals in 648 games for the club and Mount would do well to have half the career Lampard did.
