Chelsea coach Frank Lampard says that Oliver Giroud has taken the decision to proceed with his career at the Premier League Club but he will not stand in the path of the French International if he decides to leave.
Giroud has made his four league appearances this season with Frank Lampard favouring Tammy Abraham, and Timo Werner ahead of him on most of the occasions. France manager, Didier Deschamps confessed that the 34-year-old striker should sort out all his problems to prevent compromising his national team’s future.
“Oli is very important in our squad, he’ll always want to play more.”
“I want him to be here, but I have a good relationship with him… if he feels differently we’ll have that conversation.
“I saw Oli’s agent’s quotes and I didn’t really think much of them. I understand that he wants to play, but for me it has to be about the strength of the squad. I think he has a big contribution for us,” said Lampard as per Metro reports.
With Giroud’s agreement set to expire in June, his agent advised him previously that there is a possibility that the forward could seek a move away from Stamford Bridge in the January window.
Frank Lampard has said that his midfielder Kai Havertz is completely fit to play after finishing his period of isolation following a positive test of COVID-19 this month while the veteran defender, Thiago Silva is also ready to play after missing his last league game.
Meanwhile, Christian Pulisic has now recovered from an earlier hamstring injury and will be in the mix to play this weekend’s Premier League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur.
