Lampard admits Chelsea need to replace Hazard

Frank Lampard has admitted Chelsea are still looking to replace Eden Hazard and will look to do so in January now their transfer ban has been lifted.

The Blues booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League with a 2-1 win over Lille at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, thanks to goals from Tammy Abraham and Cesar Azpilicueta and the club will look to strengthen their squad ahead of what could potentially be a tough tie in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Lampard has a £150million war-chest and is now free to strengthen his side after the club’s landmark legal victory with the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Having not been able to spend a penny since arriving at Stamford Bridge this summer, Lampard is keen to fill the huge void left by the departure of Eden Hazard.

Following the Blues’ unconvincing win over Lille on Tuesday, Lampard addressed the question over how he would be approaching the transfer market.

‘I think it will be very fluid and there will be discussions from now about how we will strengthen,’ Lampard told BT Sport.

‘We lost a lot of goals and creation with Eden [Hazard] last year, in his particular position.

‘We missed some chances and we can probably push and look at strengthening in those areas.

Chelsea has been linked with both Jadon Sancho and Wilfried Zaha in recent months and could be the exact players Lampard wants to help lead the line alongside Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Zaha’s agent has hinted that his client is open to leaving Crystal Palace and with the club willing to let him go for the right price Chelsea might look to seal the deal as soon as this January.
