In what could prove to a fresh twist involving Kepa Arrizabalaga’s future at Stamford Bridge, the Blues first-choice goalkeeper has made a major change to his profiles on both Instagram and Twitter. The player’s bio on both these social media platforms does not include Chelsea FC, as was mentioned earlier.
Such a move by the Spaniard comes amid intense speculation linking him with an exit from the club. Chelsea FC boss Frank Lampard is reportedly keen on selling Kepa this summer and signing a new goalkeeper to replace the 25-year old between the sticks for the Blues.
Arrizabalaga’s run as the Chelsea FC shot-stopper has come under fire lately due to his poor showings for his side in recent games. The Spanish international has made several errors, gifting goals to the opposition teams in the process. With the second-worst save percentage in this season’s Premier League campaign, Kepa has not been a source of confidence for the woeful Chelsea FC backline.
The 25-year old’s recent performance against Liverpool FC in a 5-3 defeat for his side was also subject to criticism. Kepa was largely inconsistent in his showing at Anfield on Wednesday night, misjudging his routine saves on a few occasions.
The current season has seen the Spanish international on the end of intense disapproval from Chelsea FC supporters. Kepa’s form throughout the season has been very conflicting for Lampard to continue fielding the 25-year old as his side’s first-choice goalkeeper. The Blues manager had made the decision to drop Arrizabalaga earlier this year in favor of 38-year old Willy Cabellero.
The veteran Argentine goalkeeper had become a regular starter for Chelsea FC in league games throughout February. However, Lampard then chose to recall upon Kepa to the starting lineup following Cabellero’s below-average showings.
Kepa, who is Chelsea FC’s club-record signing, has been a permanent fixture in the Blues’ starting lineup post the lockdown period. The 25-year old has started every league game since the restart of the Premier League.
Players like Jan Oblak and Dean Henderson continue to be linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. Lampard is becoming increasingly desperate to sign a world-class goalkeeping talent for his side this summer. However, Kepa’s exit is a major factor affecting Lampard making a formal approach for his goalkeeping targets in the transfer market.
