Kai Havertz has expressed shock over Chelsea’s decision to sack Thomas Tuchel who was handed the axe earlier this month by co-owner Todd Boehly.
The Blues, following their shaky start to the new campaign, parted ways with head coach Tuchel with Boehly swift in bringing in Graham Potter from Brighton on a long-term contract as the former’s successor.
In an interview with German news outlet Kicker ( via Metro), Chelsea’s star first-teamer Havertz has revealed his surprise at Tuchel’s sudden departure from the Stamford Bridge fold with Havertz voicing praise for the new boss Potter.
‘Me too (it surprised me). Especially when you consider how we’ve played in the past year and a half and what we’ve won.
‘With the current sixth place in the table, you can’t speak of a messed up start to the season, especially since we have many newcomers who first have to acclimatize But football is very fast-moving, a lot can happen at any time.
‘Our new coach has made a very good impression, we have a great squad. I think we are in for a good time.’
Potter is expected to hit the ground running in his early life in west London with the newly appointed manager said to be backed by the Chelsea board on the transfer front when the January window opens.
Chelsea could be interested in adding to their front line, according to the rumour mill, with the likes of Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic likely to be deemed surplus to requirements after dismal showings in recent times.
