The Blues have received a breakthrough in their continued pursuit for Kai Havertz, with the Premier League club agreeing upon personal terms with the 21-year old midfielder. Havertz has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge over the past few months. However, Chelsea FC had been unable to sort out a transfer for the German international in a swift manner.
It is reported that Havertz has turned down interest from all other sides rumored to be interested in signing him. The 21-year old playmaker has set his heart on signing for the Blues ahead of next season. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich were the clubs believed to have been interested in signing Havertz earlier this summer. However, both sides have since then pulled out of the race, leaving the Blues in pole position to secure the German international’s signing.
Bayer Leverkusen had earlier tried to retain the services of Havertz beyond the 2019-20 season. However, the Bundesliga side are now resigned to the possibility of losing their star player this summer with interest in the 21-year old German being rampant.
Chelsea FC, however, are inching very close to sealing a move for their long-term target. Lampard is believed to have identified Havertz as the ideal signing to bolster his side’s creativity on the pitch. Ever since Eden Hazard left for Real Madrid, the Blues have lacked an influential creative presence amongst their ranks.
A fee in the region of €80 million is being pondered over by Chelsea FC to be paid for Havertz’s transfer to Bayer Leverkusen. However, the West London based outfit will also include performance-based add-ons in the transfer offer to tempt Leverkusen into accepting their bid.
Recent reports suggest that Leverkusen want as much as €100m to allow their star midfielder to leave. However, the Bundesliga club are likely to relent to Chelsea FC’s tabled offer worth €80 million-plus add-ons.
If the deal goes through, the 21-year old Havertz will become the Blues’ third signing of the summer. The German international will follow his national teammate Timo Werner and Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech in moving to Stamford Bridge.
