Kai Havertz didn’t have any proper pre-season training with Chelsea as he had to rush in from his international duties to confirm signing. Within little days of training, he made his debut against Brighton in the Premier League opening match.
In these unusual times, a proper pre-season was not possible that was clearly exposed in his lacklustre performances. With more game time, the German winger started looking sharper as he ha started getting accustomed to the new league.
It is the same with the rest of the players in the squad. No having match fitness has been the issue for most but they are all improving gradually and the recent performance against Crystal Palace has shown their collective improvement.
The Blues hammered four goals past Palace and it was a difficult first half according to the England international. Their ultra-defensive mode prevented them from opening the scoresheet but that changed in the second half.
‘We played well and scored four goals. It gives us a lot of confidence. After the international break we have to continue like this.
‘It takes a bit of time to find connections. A lot of players, like me, didn’t have pre-seasons, and a lot of players are new. It takes maybe a month for everyone to settle in nicely. It’s different for players to come from another country, young as well, but now we are settled in very good”: Havertz said in the Chelsea official site.
Kai Havertz feels that the new faces are settling in comfortably too like him. As the season will progress, they will grow as a team and become more confident.
‘We can achieve a lot this season. We have very good players, a good coach, and we are here to win titles. That’s our goal.’
The German attacker also felt the difference in the league he is playing with Bundesliga. He is of the opinion that in EPL, the game is very aggressive and always full of intensity. Playing against smaller teams in the Germany League is much easier but in English Premier League, lower table teams like West Brom, Brighton can throw a much difficult challenge.
