Serie A giants Juventus have initiated talks with Jorginho’s representatives ahead of making a formal offer to Premier League side Chelsea for the Italian midfielder.
Former Blues manager Maurizio Sarri made Jorginho an integral part of his Napoli side that fought hard in the Serie A during his reign at the Partenopei. The 61-year old Sarri then made him the first signing during his season-long sojourn at west London. Similar to his former manager, Jorginho endured a rather difficult 12 months when he first arrived in England but the midfield maestro has been revitalised under the tutelage of Frank Lampard.
In fact, Lampard has taken so kindly to Jorginho that he decided to appoint the 28-year-old as the club’s vice-captain. Chelsea initially spent a reported €50million on Jorginho and although Juventus are now supposedly interested to engineer a deal worth €40m the offloading of the midfielder provides the Blues with a chance to raise funds and invest elsewhere in a squad which provides Lampard with a dilemma. More so, Jorginho’s move to Turin would allow him to reunite with Sarri for the third time in his career.
The Chelsea legend is currently in his first year as manager of the club and is prepared to allow three of his most experienced players, Pedro, Willian and Olivier Giroud leave on free transfers at the end of the season. However, Lampard will require funds to replace at least two of that trio and Jorinho’s departure could provide that incentive.
Chelsea continues to maintain their interest in signing West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice over the summer and the 21-year-old English star is tipped as an upgrade over Jorginho.
