Rumours persist regarding Jorginho’s move away from Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window. The Italian midfielder has been frozen out of the Chelsea FC starting lineup post lockdown period. Jorginho’s appearances in the Blues shirt has largely been confined to a few minutes off the bench.
In Chelsea FC’s recent game away to Crystal Palace FC, Blues manager Frank Lampard chose to start youngster Billy Gilmour over Jorginho despite the absence of N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic. Jorginho, who is also the vice-captain of Chelsea FC, was called on for the final 10 minutes of the game. Lampard insisted in his post-match interview that playing Gilmour over Jorginho was merely a tactical decision.
However, what is surprising is that Jorginho has not started any game for the Blues since the restart of the Premier League last month. Moreover, the 28-year old’s cameo appearance against Crystal Palace was his first outing in the Blues shirt post since Project Restart.
Chelsea FC boss Frank Lampard has found a new midfield talent in Ross Barkley, whose game has improved considerably over the past few weeks. The English international has slotted into the midfield trio alongside Kante and Kovacic, thus relegating Jorginho to the bench. Barkley has also scored important goals for the Blues in recent games.
Jorginho’s exclusion from Lampard’s starting lineup comes amid constant speculation linking the player with a move to Juventus FC. The Italian international has been the source of interest for the Serie A leaders for a long time. Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri is known to be keen on reuniting with his former Napoli and Chelsea FC protégée Jorginho.
The 28-year old Jorginho’s current deal with the Blues still has three years remaining on it. Moreover, the midfielder was signed by Chelsea FC for a hefty fee amounting to €57 million. This means that it is very unlikely that the Blues would let Jorginho depart for a cheap price-tag to Juventus FC.
Despite Lampard reaffirming that Jorginho is still in his Chelsea FC plans, Juventus FC looks poised to make a move for the player. After having confirmed the sale of Pjanic to FC Barcelona, the Serie A giants feel Jorginho could be a worthy addition to the Old Lady.
