Records are meant to be broken. The Italian defender Jorginho broke one too in the match against Newcastle on third game week of the season. The record which belonged to Cesc Fabregas now has been scripted by Jorginho. Jorginho made history in his third game for Chelsea.
What was the record?
Jorginho attempted a total of 173 passes which in the context of 90 minute football game is huge. Jorginho created history by becoming number one for Chelsea in terms of attempting the number of passes in a game and was just one short of creating history and becoming number one in the Premier League.
Presently, the record is being held by Gundogan(174 passes) of Manchester city. Out of a total of 913 pass attempts, around 20% of the attempts came off Jorginho.
Jorginho was not behind in terms of completed passes either and amassed a total of 158 completed passes. After Gundagon and Fernandinho, it was Jorginho who created history in his third Premier League game. What was funny to see was Newcastle could only complete 131 passes in the whole match, 27 short of Jorginho alone.
With a lot of matches to come we can expect history being made by the Italian midfielder.
