Joe Cole has called upon his former side Chelsea to sign World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez in the upcoming January transfer window to solve their goalkeeping worries.
Edouard Mendy had been the first-choice option between the goalposts at the Bridge before Graham Potter’s appointment, who favored Kepa to the starting berth on the Chelsea team sheet since his arrival in west London.
Kepa’s future in the Chelsea shirt, however, has continued to attract speculation with the Spaniard’s error-prone form during his time at the club making many wonder whether Potter would be in the market for a new shot-stopper.
One goalkeeper who has impressed the footballing community in the recent past is the Argentine Emiliano Martinez, who on the back of his stellar displays at the World Cup in Qatar where he won the Golden Glove, could be set for a high-profile move elsewhere.
Speaking to All to Play For podcast, the former Chelsea and Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole reckons Chelsea should be right in the mix to table an offer for the Aston Villa No.1 when the transfer window reopens for business in the coming weeks.
“Martinez for me.
“I watched him, he didn’t have that many shots to face because they were so good in front of him, but you know what he is good at? Crossing, commanding, and you know he’s connected to his back four. In the big moments, he delivered. If I’m Chelsea I am tabling a bid for him now. I think he was outstanding.”
